250, 000 new and old flyers for sale

Post by Wigs » 02 Mar 2012, 19:08

Just seen this posted on the raveflyers message board... :-o

http://www.raveflyers.co.uk/wwwboard/messages/6843.html
Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to invite you to consider the possibility of buying from me up to 250, 000 printed rave ephemera items of Pop culture from approximately 1987 2012. The famous artists include Steven Perry (Pez), Junior Tomlin, Mark Poole, and James Nastaze.

I have been collecting these mostly glossy paper and non glossy paper items for over 25 years. This stunning collection includes flyers, leaflets, brochures, guides, and programmes. The items are from England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Japan, United States of America, Germany, Holland, Brazil, South Africa, and France. This exciting collection includes the Ministry of Sound, Cream, Roast, Spiral Tribe, Gatecrasher, Manumission, Fantazia, Rave Nation, Kundalini, Roast, Telepathy, Gallery, Dreamscape, and Every Picture Tells a Story.

They are mostly mint condition, and have been boxed or bagged in a 2m x 4m room, where the central heating is often switched off and there is little or no condensation. These sentimental pieces are predominantly A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and other smaller off sizes of interest.

In the instance that you require a pre sample or sample then that can be arranged in due course.

Can you kindly let me know what range you would like to offer me for this?

I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Best regards

yep! me too, starting off "Dear Sir or Madam", which is a bit formal considering he once offered me a non-executive directorship in his company (if i paid him £2000), and another time one of his AngelFlyers newsletters referred to me as "a sexist bag of shit" :)

Hi Chris, Wigs and BB,

I am pleased to hear that you interested in buying from me up to 250, 000 rave flyers from approximately 1987 to 2012. Today, you have been added to shortlist of potential buyers. If you require a pre sample or sample then that can be arranged in due course. Photos of likeness as .jpgs or .gifs can be emailed to you immediately on request. I welcome a Wants List of Items by company or brand that you want included in this upcoming transaction. You possible Wants List of flyers to buy can be checked by me and commented on before you spend any money. This way you are assured of getting the best of breed. Please understand that I may not be able to be specific as to which exact flyers you may want to buy from me due to the large volume.

PURCHASE

I would like to suggest that we use a Cost Per Thousand (1, 000) selling measurement. This way you can purchase on the basis of what it costs to access the 250, 000 new and old flyers for sale. I can then sell you the types of flyers you want to buy. Some of these are separate items and some are duplicates which are to included in this proposed sale. It will include both separates and dulicates. You are assured that you will be made aware of some or all of these items in advance of buying them. The vast majoraty of these valuable flyers are in Mint condition. I can sift through your potential purchase of these flyers, to ensure that any popular Wants List items (such as Dreamscape, Roast, Renaissance, Fantazia, Gatecrasher, Gallery, Torture Garden, Hard On, and Candybar, Made JoJo's, as well as Ministry of Sound) that you may hold dear are included.

Now you have two options to go ahead with.

PART COLLECTION

It will cost me £4, 000.00p to obtain 1, 000 flyers that I want to buy.

This means that I could invest £4.00p per flyer and enhance my own flyer collection or start my own flyer collection now.

Please include any Wants List items of flyers that you want included in the 1, 000 flyers you want to buy. This can emailed to me via a word document, text file, or similar. This way you get the companies or brands of flyers that you want to collect. For instance, you might be interested in certain types of flyers, such as the 21st Century has seen an increase of some collectors wanting to get ahold of gay and lesbian flyers which have been increasing in value over the past 12 years.

This does not include any additional postage and packaging, nor transportation costs.

WHOLE COLLECTION

1, 000 collectible flyers from my 250, 000 collection of flyers can cost you £4, 000.00p which is the Cost Per Thousand (1, 000) flyers.

£4.00p per flyer / 250,000 flyers / £1, 000, 000 for this flyer collection.

£1, 000, 000 to be invested by you / 250, 000 club and rave flyers collection / one club and rave flyers buyer.

This does not include any additional postage and packaging, nor transportation costs.

BUDGET

It is preferred that my collection of flyers is sold to one buyer. I would like for that buyer to be you. However, multiple buyers shall be considered, on first come first served basis.

* How much money do you want to spend with me?

* When this month, do you want to make a purchase?

* What, if anything, is holding you back from going ahead and buying from me today?

* To receive some examples or likeness of what I have for sale, what is your email address?

Rest assured that we can summarise this potential deal before I receive your confirmation email. Only then, when you want to go ahead with that purchase, this can then be done via a chaps or bacs via your bank into my bank account. We can also calculate together any additional postage and packaging, nor transportation costs prior to any money changing hands. Your delivery address can be suplied by you to me at that time. The above Cost Per Thousand (1, 000) selling measurement is the fairest way of ensuring that you get value for money. You are welcome to make alternative suggestions to buying all or some of my 250, 000 or so flyer collection just in case you have your own ideas you want to share with me as to pushing forward with this.

Do you have any further questions before we firm up?

I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Best regards

My response..
Dear Tav,
First of all as they say on Dragons Den, let me clarify my position. ‘I’m out’. I wish you well with your sale, but I would like to offer some (hopefully) constructive advice.
I’m my experience flyer collecting is a fairly niche market and therefore most collectors either collect specific promoters or years. There are very few that collect on a large scale covering all years. I collect for specific promoters and therefore require relatively few flyers to complete my collection.
Your valuation of £4.00 a flyer regardless of year is not based on reality and is quite extraordinary. Yes, flyers have become more sought after in recent years, but any flyers after 1992 see their values drop dramatically and in fact many are practically worthless. Believe me I wish they were worth as much as you believe, but they are not.
To give you some examples of recent transactions on ebay (these were on 27th & 28th Feb 2012)
230 flyers sold - £31.99 = approx. 14p per flyer
344 flyers sold - £50 = approx. 15p per flyer
150 flyers sold - £6.49 = approx 4p per flyer
I also record statistics of flyers sold on ebay on my own site and between January 2010 and December 2011 there were just 1,116 flyers sold (on an individual basis) with a value greater than £3.50. That is across all flyer collectors in the UK buying on ebay (that’s how small the market is). If you look at ebay there are many flyers listed that sell for just 99p and there are more that do not sell at all, even for 99p.
Consequently the chance of finding someone willing to pay £1million for your collection is, let say unlikely. What would / could anyone do with them? There is clearly not a market big enough to resell them. One ray of light for you is there have been a couple of ‘new’ buyers appear on ebay in recent months with deep pockets, but their main focus seems to be on 1989 flyers.
Good luck, but to be honest I think you will need more than that.
Wigs
P.S Feel free to check out that statistics for recent years on my site (link below)

Shh, don't tell him that. It's devaluing my collection, I've just put a £500 tag on my collection due to this thread!
