Good luck with your project and hope it works out well for you.. :-BD

The site sounds a great idea and it would be interesting to see flyers from all around the world.

However, sadly it will be very difficult to raise the $40,000 you hope for and can see at the moment you are a long way from your target.

As nice as it would be to have a $30,000 scanner.. I don't think for your project you really need one that expensive.

You mention
Currently with a modest small business scanner I spend about 10 hours scanning 100 double sided flyers that are half page or smaller. I then have to manually crop each side in Photoshop (200 sides) which usually takes 2 days working 8 hours per day. so we are looking at roughly 26 hours to scan and edit 100 double sided flyers
Really :-o :-o 26 hours to scan and crop 100 flyers double sided.. I've scanned a fair few flyers over recent years and I can't understand how it would take that long.

I have a pretty cheap scanner which I guess cost me around $70.. and that can scan a document in around 20 seconds each side at the most... With the cropping I believe without breaking too much of a sweat I could do 100 flyers double sided in a couple of hours at the most. The time scale you mention works out about 15 minutes per flyer.

Sorry if I sound like a grumpy old man.. and I really do wish you good luck (or a lottery win) :D

Bit confused as you've ripped many of phatmedia's scans for your site.

I thought the idea is to display images from your own digital archive of donated flyers?
If you wanted any high res scans sans watermark you could have contacted me directly in return for linkage to phatmedia.

Also do you return any donated flyers once scanned? Many people like to keep hold of their collections.

Good Luck with the project... if the $40,000 set up helps you scan 100000 flyers in 83 hours then its well worth doing...

Might be worth asking some of the other collectors to donate some scans as not everyone maybe able to part with the cash?

I think it's bad form if you are using other sites scans for your own site, without at least giving some thanks to the original owners of the scans :-Q

If i use other sites scans, i always say where the scan has come from ;) It's common courtesy :)

I think the project is a good idea if i'm honest but $40,000 seems a lot of money for what you want to do - i wish you the best of luck :-BD

I'm guessing the Purple Haze ones from Sterns aren't your scans as they bear a striking resemblance to those posted by Higguz on here.. Of course I could be wrong, but do you actually have those flyers...? If you do I would be happy to take them off your hands for a sizable donation to your project. ;)

The white one is one of Stare's uploads. Not sure about the rest.

I think all the one's from the north are mine! lol...If anyone's buying a scanner it should be for Tim not someone with the cheek to steel scans without asking then ask for a donation to a site to host your own flyers! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
